Somewhere in a corner of your mind where trivia resides, you might remember that the names of our months have ancient Greek and Roman origins. January comes from the mythological Roman god Janus. He was the god of new beginnings, transitions and endings represented by doorways, gates and even the rising and setting of the sun. Legend has it that the god Saturn bestowed Janus with the ability to see both the past and the future, so ancient coins and statues show a god with 2 faces – one face looks forward and the other looks back. Perhaps that could include inward reflection as well.
